I have one large parcel that fits this scenario. It does not fit onto one map page and consequently require two parcel numbers. When I was in escrow, I had some difficulty getting my arms around the fact that two APN's does not necessarily mean two separate legal parcels. I also have land that I once made a loan on, foreclosed and notice that I actually have two legal lots with three APN's, all having one address. Lesson for me: an APN is only for the benefit of tyhe tax assessor/collector and does not always denote legal parcels. Which led me to an interesting read: "Owner Unknown - Your Guide to Real Estate Treasure Hunting" by J D Segal. Hard to find (and may be out of print) but outlines properties which have fallen through the tax collectors' cracks.
